objective
Gaining Accurate Insights into Starbucks’ Diverse Suppliers
Starbucks’ Diverse Supplier Program seeks to support and cultivate relationships with qualified independent suppliers owned by women, veterans, people of color, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ individuals. With the intention of increasing investment in the program, the company sought to better understand the economic and social impact of its diverse suppliers—especially as all businesses participating in its supply chain faced unique challenges during and after the pandemic.

SOLUTION
Custom Survey Design and Qualitative Interviews
In partnership with Red Associates, Declarative developed an extensive survey to gather financial, workforce, and experiential data to form a comprehensive perspective about their business health and practices over the past few years. The survey was implemented with diverse suppliers and a control group of non-diverse suppliers working with Starbucks. Red Associates further performed ethnographic interviews with select suppliers. The full analysis was complemented by data visualization and summarized in an impact report to share with internal stakeholders.
